Early Detection Is Key

An eye appointment isn’t just about updating your prescription. Staying on track with your regular eye exams is an important way to protect the health of your eyes with early diagnosis and management of eye conditions and diseases.

Many eye diseases have no easily noticeable symptoms in their early stages, so an eye exam is the only way to detect abnormalities and start a management plan before they progress.

Diagnostic Technology in Our Practice

In addition to helping us spot and identify eye diseases during their early stages, our diagnostic technology helps us monitor important parts of your eye over time to view any changes or developments that may need our attention.

Our technological devices help us monitor our patients closely and find the right treatments for individual needs. Our goal is to help slow the progression of eye diseases and protect your eyes.

Common Eye Diseases & Conditions

Helping manage your eye health means monitoring your eyes for any eye conditions or diseases that can be harmful if not treated. We use diagnostic technology to keep an eye out for common eye conditions that can be seen in the retina, lens of the eye, and other areas of your eyes.

Starting treatment once these conditions have been found can help preserve your vision and help us provide support for your daily vision needs.

Glaucoma

Glaucoma is an eye disease caused by damage to the optic nerve, often as a result of high eye pressure. The noticeable symptoms of glaucoma often don’t start until the mid-to-late stages but can include losing peripheral vision and in serious cases, total vision loss.

Some of the common glaucoma management and treatment options include medication, laser treatments, and surgery to help with the symptoms and prevent vision loss.

Cataracts are a condition in which the lenses of your eyes become cloudy. Age is a common risk factor for cataracts—almost 50% of adults 80 or older in the US are affected by cataracts or have undergone cataract surgery.

The symptoms of cataracts can include blurry or hazy vision, dulling of colors, or trouble with reading, driving, or other daily activities. In many cases, cataract surgery is often the only treatment suitable for addressing cataracts.

Age-related macular degeneration (AMD) is caused by damage to the macula in the retina due to age. There are 2 common types of AMD: wet and dry. Dry AMD is caused by the macula thinning over time. Wet AMD is caused by abnormal blood vessels that grow in the back of the eye and damage the macula. Wet AMD is often a serious issue that requires urgent care.

The macula is responsible for the eye’s central vision, so AMD can cause blurry central vision, difficulty seeing faces, and central vision loss. Treatment for AMD can include medications, injections, and laser treatments.

Diabetic retinopathy is a disease that can affect those with type 1 or 2 diabetes due to increased blood sugar. Diabetes can cause the blood vessels in your retina to become blocked and begin to swell and leak. This can cause symptoms such as spots in your vision and in serious cases, total vision loss.

Diabetic retinopathy can be treated with injections, laser surgery, and medications, as well as proper management of diabetes to lower blood sugar levels.
